Lost keystrokes

Hello,

I have a Sony Vaio desktop box running Win XP Professional SP 2.
The keyboard is a Microsoft wireless keyboard. Sometimes
(problem comes and goes) when I am typing, some keystrokes
are lost. What I mean is that I might type "abcdefghi" but only
"bcfh" appears. The problem doesn't appear to be associated
with whatever applications are running -- I closed all applications
except for a command prompt and a file explorer and it still
happened. A virus scan didn't turn up anything.

This is really making me bonkers. Any advice is appreciated.

best,

Try a different keyboard.

if the built in keyboard
on the laptop doesn't
have the same problem,
then it is likely to be
a mechanical issue with
the keyboard.

i have a microsoft
keyboard as well
and i think that it is
basically a piece of
expensive crap.

Because it is wireless, there are many reasons that you have a failure. It
can be a stray electrical signal generated by the computer, a fluorescent
light nearby, a motor starting up, speakers too close to the receiver and
many other reasons, even including weak batteries.

At my place of business, I use a wireless mouse and keyboard (Kensington)
that will have the same problem when I also use the remote control for the
projection system. And when I am using the mouse or keyboard the projection
system remote won't work properly. Interference with radio signals by other
equipment is an ongoing problem.
