Lost emails when I compacted outlook

I was opening outlook when I recieved a message asking me if I wanted to
compact my messages in outlook in order to save disk space. The message read
'To free up disk space, Outlook Express can compact messages. This may take
a few minutes.' I did this and lost all the emails in my inbox and drafts
folder. I also am not able to access the deleted folder which has a message
saying 'Folder could not be displayed. Possible causes are: Low disk space
and low memory. I've got 20GB hard disk space and 381MB page file. Can
anyone help

Try posting this in an Outlook Express news group - this is not one of them.
Outlook is a part of Microsoft Office and is what this group supports.
Outlook Express is a part of Internet Explorer and has its own news groups.

You can also find some good Outlook Express information here:

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After furious head scratching, bikku555 asked:
