Lost Emails through compacting

Hi
I have logged on today and I have noticed in my oulook express box 95 % of
my folders have disappeared! I do remember been asked if I wanted to compact
some files and I clicked yes as usual - where do these folders / emails get
compacted to. I tried to restore some email from my recycle bin but they have
now disappeared! Help - where are they. I have tried running a search on all
..pst folders but monthing.
