Outlook Lost e-mails in Outlook

my Microsoft outlook crush and when its downloaded all the old e-mails are lost; how can the old e-mail be recovered?

What type of email service are you using Outlook with? Is it corporate email (Exchange)? Gmail? Yahoo? If it's an internet mail type, I would try logging into your account on the web and see if the mail is there or not, to start.
