i have a COA on my computer but i have lost my original CD

i an selling my computer - the SOA sticker is on the side of the computer,
is it legal for me to copy a friend XP disk to give to the purchaser of my
computer.

No, it is not. The only disc that will work on that computer is the one it
was supplied with (most manufacturers BIOS lock their installations and
some, like HP, don't even supply a proper XP CD, just a recovery disc that
acts as a key to unlock a hidden partition containing the OS).

Also, a Home key cannot be used for Pro, nor can an OEM key be used for a
retail and vice versa.

As long as it is an OEM CD. The media type has to match the original.
OEM-OEM HOME-HOME PRO-PRO, you get the idea.

No, it won't work, Bob, for the reasons I've stated. The only disc that will
work is the disc that was originally shipped with the unit.
