Lost control panel

Recently I tried to access control panel, but computer
could not open it. Computer's hourglass icon appreared
and stayed on until I cancelled request (about an hour). I
can't access either from the start menu or My Computer.
I'm using Win 2000 pro. Any suggestions?

I have a similar problem: I can't access My Computer. It
just hangs, hourglass, just like your report. Not even a
reboot helps.

The only thing I can think of that might have caused it is
that I've been using Norton Security 2003 for about 2
weeks, and just before this happened, I declined a certain
apparently spurious network access request, and since
then, no My Computer. I tried disabling Norton Security,
but that didn't help.

Also at about the same time, I was using Visual C++ and a
file went missing, not really sure how.

I can go to My Documents and get to any directory in the
Windows Explorer. I've run chkdsk on all the drives.

Also Win2k Pro.

Any suggestions?
