Lost Connection

OK....I had internet connection one minute and the next
it's gone. It has been a week now. I called my cable
company (cause I have cable internet). They came and
checked everything, the ethernet cable the modem box, and
the service signal. Everything is working fine. Device
manager says my Ethernet card is working properly. I see
my IP address and you can see that from network
connections that I am connected and there is a connection
reading. But I cannot get the internet. I keep
getting "page cannot be displayed" I even formatted the
hard drive and installed just XP Pro. Still the same.
Network connections shows the card enabled. So why can't
I access the internet? Please help.

Dear Jah711,
I have a similar problem and i have seen thius many times but i am still
looking for the sollution.
Do you use a firewall. Most probably NOT.
While you were on internet someone hack your system, changed a file
(unfortunatel i still do not know whichone! :-( )
Some times you still get a IP from the Router and sometimes Win will say
that there is no network connection.
The only solutiuon i have found till now is to reinstall windows.

I tried;
- removing the networcard and then reinstalling it -> no change
- removing protocols, rebooting, reinstalling -> no change
It is like there is somewhere a file or setting the block certein poort so
that windows thinks that all is well while it is not.
I hope we find the sollution whit out having to reinstall.
Good luck,
Tariq

Hi
I too have a similar problem and have tried many of the
fixes mentioned to no avail. This is my symptons and
maybe someone can throw some light on it for us all

I am trying to fix a problem with a AMD 2 GHZ Computer
running xp pro. The computer will not join a network nor
will it surf the Internet. Dial up connection to the ISP
is ok but connects is all it does.
To try and trouble shoot the problem I connected it to a
XP Network (Celeron)through a hub and have another
computer (Pentium) also in the network.
The Celeron and Pentium enjoy troublefree networking and
surfing all through automatic ip addressing.
The AMD has also automatic addressing and assigns IP OK
but I cannot get it to ping the IP Address it is given it
can ping the default gateway 192.168.0.1 and also can
ping yahoo.com but it will not connect to the network nor
will it bring up a webpage. I have no firewalls (that i
can recognise)

OK.....I found out the issue of my problem. Mines was the
fact that I was sold a defective motherboard. No matter
how many NIC cards I bought, they all kept burning out,
then nothing appeared on my monitor, not even BIOS. So it
was at that point that I realized my board was shot.
Luckly it was still under warranty. So I took it back,
they replaced it with a new one and now everything works
fine.
Now I was also told other reasons this could be happening
before I found out it was my motherboard.
1. Sasser worm
2. Ethernet card
3. Spyware and adware
4. Something in the computer is dead. (Hardware)
Good luck to the rest of you with this issue.
