I have my serial # and have lost my CD (I think a friend
of my son stole it, but who knows for sure). I had virus
issues and used a 'publically available' copy of XP to
reinstall on my computer, but then was unable to put my
serial number in, as XP told me it was a 'corporate'
edition. Anyway, I now am locked out of windows. When I
log in, the screen says 'logging in', then blinks and
says 'logging out' and goes back to the multi-user screen.

Questions:

Does the symptom sound like what happens when you can't
register your XP with Microsoft?

Can you get a replacement CD somehow?

Will reinstalling XP over the top of this fix the symptom?

You could borrow one from a friend as long as it is the same exact version
and contact Microsoft from the contact information in the link below to
replace the CD for future use.
Click on or copy and paste the link below into your web browser address box.
I need to contact Microsoft to replace a CD, Lost CD key, etc......
