Lost CD/DVD Drive

After spending several hours trying to install adobe software I spoke with
adobe technical support who advised me that my problem was either faulty
disks or my cd/dvd driver needed updating.

I have returned the software for them to check, then I foolishly checked the
dell website for an updated driver. Having believed I found the correct
driver I installed it then restarted the computer as instructed. Since then I
have been unable to locate my CD/DVD dirive in either my computer or anywhere
else. I have lost several hours trying a multitude of things and am now at
the stage where I need help please.

My cd/dvd rom drive won't even eject it's tray when I push eject, it's like
it is completely dead. I have followed the instruction for removing the upper
and lower filters from the registry but this made no difference.

Please help, I am an MSc student who is falling way behind in my assignments
due to this problem.

Thank you Claggy, before I run an exe to attempt to fix my problem, please
can you tell me a little bit about what it will do to my computer. I don't
mean to be a pain. Thank you

It removes registry entries that are known to make CD and DVD drives
inaccessible. It may not fix your problem but it won't hurt anything either.
If the bad entries aren't there it won't remove anything. It is written by
Doug knox. He is an Microsoft MVP. He writes tweaks and fixes to help people
repair some pretty common problems. Visit his page.
