lost administrator

I do not know how, but name of administrator and the
password,for administrator privilages has been deleted. I
am listed as owner, but no one is administrator..I am
locked out of upgrades etc. Can anyone help? I am useing
windows xp.
 
Reboot the machine and go into safe mode. Click and hold
the f8 key when the machine starts. Then highlight
safemode and hit enter. Log on as administrator
(typically there is no password) and place yourself in
the administrator group.
