Lost Administrator Password

We employed an outside company to maintain our network but they have been
abusing our trust by remotely damaging our system. They have changed our
servers Administrator Password so that we can no longer gain access to our
server. Is there any possible way to gain access to our server via any
restore function or otherwise. Thank you for any assistance you can provide.
We are using Microsoft SBS 2000.

Wow! That sounds horrible. Without knowing all the details I would wonder
how you know it was them and not someone else such as a hacker, disgruntled
employee, or ex employee or how you know that was done remotely and not by
some user internally either on purpose or by unintentionally installing
malicious software that gave an outsider access or other means particularly
if the server is not physically secure. This is all important because the it
makes a difference on how you will try to fix the problem to prevent it from
happening in the future again, how to restore your network to secure
configuration, and asses damage control. Anyhow see the link below on how to
gain administrator access again. Since the server is the domain controller
personally I would start with the assumption that the whole network has been
compromised and not be trusted [backdoors installed, etc]. --- Steve

Do you have any backup administrator accounts? If so use that to reset the
administrator password.

If you have a System State backup prior to them changing the password it
could be restored to regain access to the system. However, restoring an old
backup (greater than 30 days old) could cause you more grief then you have
now.

You may want to consider legal action against the company, the appropriate
courts should be able to force them to disclose the password to your company.

That's my $0.02
