Somewhere in Outlook 2002 there is an address I can't locate, that I wish to
delete. It appears when I type the first three letters in the To bar of a
new e-mail message. Yet I cannot find it in Contacts or Addresses. Not
only do I not want this address, I want those first three letters to create
a different address that is in the address file. Please comment.

Start a new email.
Type those three letters.
Use the arrow keys to highlight that address.
Hit the delete key.

The next time you send a mail to that other person, the address will be
added to the file on your hard drive that stores the addresses you mail.

Your suggesstion to just hit the delete key seems to work. But I believe I
have tried that and will see what may happen tomorrow morning after I turn
the machuine on, i.e. reboot.

BTW I trust this reply goes to the Geroup; I had been using the Reply icon
rather than the Reply Group icon. And whether it works or not I wil respond
in the morning to let you know. Thanks. Oldred.

Why don't you just reboot *now* and find out what happens?

Well Hot Dawg! Your 'delete if already highlighted' suggestions seems to
have worked. Thank you!

Now a new but related topic, if that is allowed. How can an address be
abreviated (or the appropriate letters selcted) so that when typed in the To
or CC window, the full address fills in? Please advise.

Create a contact and put the 'shortcut' that you want as the 'Display As'
field, when you type in the shortcut and hit control - K, that should be
what is pulled up, unless, of course, there is someone else who matches that
shortcut.
