Lost address book

Guest

Have been sending faxes fine, up until today. When I click on the Address
book button, all my addresses are missing. It says show names from "Outlook
Address Book" but won't let me add anything to it. My addresses are still
fine when I call up the address book through OE 6. I haven't made any
changes to my system since I last sent a fax successfully. How do I get my
address book linked back to the fax console of fax wizard?

Not possible. You must have changed something.
You could not be pulling up the Outlook Address Book unless you had
installed Outlook. Once you install Outlook, the Fax Console defaults to
your Outlook Contacts (i.e., Outlook Address Book).
What is the default Contact list manager for your operating system? (Hint:
Control Panel > Internet Options > Programs)

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Somehow (I guess I did it since I'm the
only one using the computer) the contact list was changed from Address Book
to Microsoft Office Outlook. I changed it back and all my contacts are
there. You saved me a real headache because I never would have thought to
look there. Thank you again. Blessings to you and your family.

You might not have done it intentionally. Have you always had Outlook
installed? Sometimes running an Office update will reset Outlook as the
default. Sneaky.

Go to outlook. Right click on the address book and go to "properties" and
then to Outlook address book. Make sure that "show this folder as an email
address book" is checked. This contact list will now show up in the fax
wizard. The reason why this happens is the personal file folder that
contains the address book is closed and reopened. Try to keep your .pst's
open or you will have to go through to each fax contact list and change the
settings.

Hope this helps.

This is a very old thread, but I'm not finding much in your post that is
accurate. You do not and cannot enable the Outlook Address Book as an email
address book. That can only be done for Contacts Folders.
Nor is it necessary to keep Outlook running in order to access the Outlook
Address Book from XP Fax.

I was actually speaking about the individual contacts folders. Go ahead.
Uncheck "show this folder as an email address book" and see if you can access
it from the fax wizard. I was not talking about keeping outlook running-
rather closing an outlook personal file folder (say you keep the fax numbers
in a seperate folder because it is simply so huge) will cause that check box
to become erased. Don't talk my word for it. Try it yourself and then call
me a goofball. You have a very arrogant way of speaking for someone who
didn't do their homework.

You are right- this is an old thread and I actually did not see your
response to the original question until returning to the thread today.

The only problem here is that what you actually said is not what you
intended to say. Your initial post was wrong. Your correction is right.
We can only know what you type. We cannot know what you are "actually
speaking about," especially when it is different than what you type. That's
why the corrections were necessary. I have never seen an instance where
someone would deliberately close a PST file from their Outlook profile and
still expect the Outlook Address Book Service to retain its connection to
it. I'm sure it can happen, but it's not bloody likely.

Did I not specifically say "personal file folder"? You twisted this to mean
I said Outlook was not running. In saying "outlook address book" I might not
have been specific enough for your tastes- I keep my addresses organized in
folders because we have tens of thousands of entries for multiple industries-
nothing is in my main address book.

Of course no one would deliberately close a pst- but sometimes they do it by
accident. The only problem here is that you like to jump down people's
throats before you read what they say.

I did read what you said. What you said was either unclear or inaccurate.
Only when you posted what you "meant to say" could we have known otherwise.
Unfortunately, a lot of readers who did not know what you meant to say could
have been misled.
Interpreting the corrections as "jumping down your throat" seems a real
stretch, but if your skin is that thin, then I apologize.
