Lost Address Bar histories

None of my Address Bars (Desktop, from right clicking the
task bar, IE6 or Outlook 2002) any longer have any
history in them. When I click the down arrows on the
desktop bar and in IE, a big empty white box drops down.
In Outlook, not even the box drops down. They all worked
correctly 2 weeks ago. My history folder (documents &
settings\blah blah) is full with URLs from the last 3
weeks (my setting is to keep history for 20 days). I
noticed this a little while after I installed the Avant
browser (though I can't say that this caused it right
away;wasn't being observant enough) and I have since
uninstalled it anyway;no fix. I also fiddled with the
registry settings for Windows Explorer view settings
(BagMRU area)before I noticed this, if that helps. I have
also downloaded everything from the Windows Update site.
So, I changed a setting somewhere, or it got changed with
my fiddling and I guess I want to know where to start to
get this back. Thanks.

Richard,

BagsMRU doesn't have anything to do with this. That is for Folder view
settings history. Sounds as though you have been doing some tweaking. Have
you also disabled Recent Documents and/or Typed URL's......?

Also verify that AutoComplete is enabled: IE/Tools/Internet Options/

Kelly, you seem to be the only one to help with both of
my problems. I already sent a reply to the other one.
First, I don't think I've disabled Recent Documents or
Typed URL's because I remember seeing those settings but
right now I can't seem to remember where they are located
to check it out. I tried Internet options but didn't find
them there.
I tried the "Prevent IE history from being removed" from
your site and the dropdown lists have returned, and stay
after a reboot, but only with todays entries. Still
nothing going back the 20 days that I have saved in my
history folder. But we're on the right track. Sure would
like to find more information about how the Address bars
and the history folder all work together. The KB yields
mostly unrelated articles when I ask about either and has
so far not yielded any help.
Thanks again for trying to help me out.

Most welcome, Rick. Did you at one time perhaps clear AutoComplete or
disable the function in-between the 20 days?

The only other thing that comes to mind is that for some users
History/Favorites are removed or not being saved is due to:

McAfee and from the date and time being incorrect. Checkpoints and
Suggestions:

Check to be sure that your date and time is correct. Also, if you are using
McAfee, this will help:

McAfee gave this solution to the bug where VirusScan 6 stops your
Internet Explorer History file working.

Open VirusScan console
Select "Pick a task..."
Select "Change my VirusScan settings"
Select "Configure VShield background scanning"
Select "Customise your VShield settings"

Select the "Internet Filter" icon from the icons down the left hand side On
the "Detection" tab, in the 'Applet filters' section, remove the tick next
to "ActiveX Controls".

Thanks Kelly: I don't use McAfee and never have on this
machine. I use Norton AV. And my date and time are right
on. I do not remember ever clearing Auto Complete (but
anything is possible)and it has been working everywhere
else it's supposed to as I have it set (all boxes
checked). I still haven't been able to re-find where I
enable/disable Typed URL's and Recent Documents so I've
been unable to check these settings. And as I mentioned
in my last post, this problem seems to be working better
after using your "Prevent IE history from being removed"
tweak though only with entries from after I installed the
tweak. Thanks again for your interest.
