Lossing Domain connection

M

Matt Soukup

I have one Windows XP pc that can logon to the domain, but the loses total
network access after doing certain network things. For example I can connect
to the domain and browse files on a mapped drive from the domain controller
with no problem. If I try to open Word and it tries to checkout the status
of the default printer, a network printer, I lose total access to the
network. Sometimes the network will stay up after opening Word, but if I try
to print to that network printer the connection is lost. This includes not
being able to ping anything by name and getting on the internet. The
computer as to be restarted to gain access to the domain.

I have tried removing the PC from the domain and adding it back, this did no
good. It does not matter who you login to the pc as; local admin, domain
admin, or domain user.

You've bumped it off and back on the domain and it still has issues.
Changing users and it still has issues.

Have you tried deleting the NIC in device manager and letting Windows detect
it again? Or updating the drivers?

I have not tried to remove the NIC from the device manager or update the
drivers. If I remove the PC from the domain and do the same stuff with the
local Administrator account it has no problem. I believe this is some type of
Group Policy error or security error. The only errors I find in the event log
are Group Policy errors.

EventID: 1058
Windows cannot access the file gpt.ini for GPO
cn={D4A1B3E3-B843-4D99-A8C2-DF4C2BDCD0E9},cn=policies,cn=system,DC=columbus,DC=local.
The file must be present at the location
<\\columbus.local\SysVol\columbus.local\Policies\{D4A1B3E3-B843-4D99-A8C2-DF4C2BDCD0E9}\gpt.ini>.
(The system cannot find the path specified. ). Group Policy processing
aborted.

EventID: 1030
Windows cannot query for the list of Group Policy objects. A message that
describes the reason for this was previously logged by the policy engine.

I have rejoined the pc to the domain. I can login as a domain users and
connect to the Exchange server to download messages, but if I click
Send/Receive I loose the network connection. Other things also cause the
network connection to fail.

If I login as the local Administrator with the computer joined to the domain
I can connect to an Exchange account on the Domain and Send/Receive to that
account. I have not lost the network connection yet when using the local
account.

When the network connection is lost I cannot ping anything, buy name or
address. Also other PCs do not get a response from this PC when pinging it.
