Loss of RID Master

Hi,

Recently we had a failure of the forest root DC. This server held all FMSO
roles and could not be recovered. Another DC has now seized these roles
including that of RID master.
Someone has suggested to me that having lost theoriginal RID database, there
are steps I should take to prevent RID duplication, but I can find nothing
with this info.
Can someone suggest the steps I should take to ensure the integrity of the
RID pools/allocation.

Thanks,

Gerry

Gerry make sure you can query the RID role and get answers from the current
holder. Read the Directory Service log and look for errors or warnings.

I think you also have to ensure that before you re-use the old RID server that you completely re-format the drives to make sure none of the original RID data interferes with the new role.

Yes, in fact that applies to all FSMO roles that have been sized to other
servers, the original holder should never be turned one back into the
network without a re-installation.

Except the PDC Emulator, which you can transfer/seize/move around at will.
