I moved favorites to my desk top, which still takes me to favorites. However
I destroyed the favorites functionality from the favorites star in IE.
Any ideas?

Sytem restore has not worked.

Put the folder back:

C:\Documents and Settings\<your account name>\Favorites

Thanks very much for the suggestion. The folder is intact. The problem is
that the favorites button is not connecting to it.

Peter,

If you've moved the Favorites to a different location, then you need to
notify the registry of that change. Only then Internet Explorer will look
into the new location.

Open Regedit.exe and navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders

Alter the "Favorites" path accordingly.

Close Regedit.exe

Note that TweakUI Powertoy can automate the above task.

Thanks very much. I am sure the answer lies within your answer but I am not
that computer literate.

First let me state I dont think I have moved favorites to a different
location: but the favorites button is clearly linked to something
else.Furthermore the favorite menu option has lost functinality: I cant add
favorites etc.

I have run TweakUI v2.10 for Windows XP but to no availl. Presuambly I need
to go in and set something. Where?

Alternatively How do I open Regedit.exe ??

Onec again thanks.

Peter,

You stated "I moved favorites to my desk top" in your initial posting.

Open TweakUI, double-click "My Computer" branch, and select "Special
Folders". Note down the Favorites location. Change it accordingly. The
default path is here:

C:\Documents and Settings\{Username}\Favorites

Click Start, Run and type Regedit.exe

Right click it, the folder on your desktop which is where you seem to have
put it, select COPY (you can delete it later if this works - delete it FROM
the desktop not from where you're putting it) and then open My Computer...

Click on C:\
Click on Documents and Settings
Open your user account.
Paste the entire folder that you just copied right there...

If you can't see that then here's some directions to show the hidden
files/folders:
