I am running Windows XP Professional - SP2 and scheduled a disk check through
Windows Explorer to find and correct any problems. When I reboot it will not
run. I have tried several times and also used the fsutil dirty command to no
avail. As a result i can no longer defragment the hard drive and fear that
it will soon become unstable as this laptop is used for graphic designs. Can
anyone help?

I would like to also add that I have sucessfully run the full diagnostics (PC
Doctor 5) and found no problems with the hard drive or system.

FYI I googled "chkdsk will not run" and received a number of things to
try and correct this problem.

Marty,

thanks for your prompt comments. I have been googling for several days now
and have not found as much info as what you found in two seconds. The first
site had a discussion of what is happening to me. However when I drill down
into my registery I come up with a slightly different setting for the
".../session manager" of

autocheck autochk /r \??\C:
autocheck autochk *

Any thoughts?

thanks for your time this morning.

John
