Losing Drive Mapping

Greetings,
I have an XP Fax server (512 RAM) that is mapped to a Win2K server that runs
our intranet. Processes on the Win2K machine create files to fax. It then
requests the fax server send the faxes. The fax server gets the request. The
problem is that sometimes the drive mapping to the Win 2K Intranet server has
failed so a blank fax is sent.
After the failure, trying to re-connect to the drive (without re-booting)
gets an error message:
An error occured when connecting K: to \\rajnet\c
Microsoft Windows Network:The local device name is already in use.
The Connection has not been restored.
..
If you keep trying to connect you get more errors, but frankly, I think it
is already toast and they are just followup errors.
In any case, the even log shows no indication of failure events.
The failures do not seem to coincide with any processes or fax requests.
I created an application that logs the time to a file on the mapped drive
and local drive every 5 seconds. The results were not clear, but the
application died, even when I made it quit trying to write the log file the
first time it failed to write. Very odd.
I have run MemTest86 ver 1.65 on the system. It showed no errors.
This map failure happened when the Intranet server was another machine
(Win2K3)
I do know that this usually fails after there has been some application
changes made on the XP fax server, but not always. It tends to keep working
after the machine is rebooted and not played with any. Play with it some and
it is likely to fail that night.
Anyway, if you have any suggestions about what might cause this, I'd really
appreciate an answer.
Thanks, Mike Breeden

*** Continued error messages recieved:
If you use the Network Neighborhood to try to re-connect to the drive, you
get a login prompt. Using the same admin login normally used for the XP
machine gives this error:
Logon unsuccessful.
The user name you typed is the same as the user name you logged in with.
That name has already been tried. The domain controller cannot be found to
verify that user name.

So log in as a different user.

\\Rajnet is not accessible. You may not have permission to use this network
resource. Contact administrator.
Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user using
more than one user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections
and try again.
