Losing all formatting

I have a user that has exported data into a new excel workbook. When he opens
it up it says that the workbook is an old version of excel. He opens it
anyway and resaves it again as a new xp workbook.

After this he opens it up applies some formatting to space out all the data
and make it more presentable. After again saving it and closing it, he willl
later go back into it and sometimes all the formatting is gone and he is back
to the basic cramped data.

Does anybody have any idea how to fix this?

Thanks for any help.

I've never seen excel do this.

I'd double check that the file is being saved as a normal workbook.

There's no chance that he's saving it as a .csv file, is there?

Dave thanks for the reply

I have checked with the user and it seems to be saving as a proper workbook.
It does not happen all the time often he can open the file 5 or 6 times
before it is opened and loses all the formatting.

If the only change is the columnwidth, then I've seen posts that describe that
problem with xl97.

Some posters say that upgrading to SR2 helps. But others have said that it had
no effect.

If you're not running xl97SR2, you may want to try it.
