Losing access to mapped network drive after running defender.

I have been having a problem lately where I lose partial access to a mapped
network drive. The problem seemed to occure randomly at first but it now
seems to happen after a defender scan has been started. The mapped drive is
still there but some of the folders that were available to me become
unavailable. Not all of them, only some. Has anyone else had this happen to
them? Is there some solution?

I haven't had the experience, but others have complained about scans of
networked drives, and the solution was to exclude the entire networked
drive from scanning under WD Advanced Options, because security on that
drive was handled elsewhere... seems to me that should work in your
situation as well.

That's a pretty interesting observation. I'm not sure what would cause
those symptoms.

Can you describe this network a bit more? Can you see any pattern in what
becomes unavailable?

Thanks for the replys.

The network is very simple. We have what is called a snapserver that we use
as a remote drive (R:) with different users given access to certian folders
with read/write or read only access or no access at all. I have access to
read/write 5 differnt folders on this remote drive and after a defender scan
I loose access to 4 of the 5 folders. The one folder that is still available
works fine but I get a message that the "R:\folder refers to a location that
is unavailable" for the other 4. After I log out and back in everything is
fine. I tried the solution suggested by Dave M but that did not seem to work.
I have stopped the automatic scans and am going to check to make sure it is
an issue with Defender and not some other scheduled task.

I did not have this problem until the last update of Defender. Another thing
is I beleive the snapserver is Linix based OS so that may be a factor.

I do not know if it is the same problem as I am experiancing as all my
computer knowledge has been self taught over the last year, and although I am
beginning to unstand some of the computers functions, I am at a loss
understanding some of the terminology. Although I feel that this post is
talking about the same problems that I am having with Windows Defender. To
help explain this problem I will be copy parts of a letter that I wrote to
Micro Soft about my problem.

"I have recently after 1 year reconnected to the internet. Shortly after
connecting my Microsoft AntiSpyware was replaced by Windows defender. My
problem is that Windows Defender had alerted me has detected some files that
is says has potentially unwanted behavior, although I recognized that they
were files from some of my programs. Such as Lexmark 3100 Series\lxbrk.sk.exe
and TV@Anywhere Utilities\P3XRCtl.exe. Recognizing these files I clicked on
Allow and in the Status it says that it succeeded. The problem is that
although it tells me that it has been allowed and succeeded, I can no longer
open the programs that run from these files. When I click on  my Lexmark
3100 Series, All in one Center nothing happens. This is the same thing for my
TV@Anywhere Plus as I can no longer open the Edit MPEG/DVD files to create
personal videos, portion of the program. I am most certain that the files
that the Windows Defender found to be questionable but states that it has
allowed are also the same files used in opening these aspects of these
programs and it would also seem that these are being blocked for being
accessed by Windows Defender. I also have a small calculator program that I
can no longer access although I do not know what the file is that accesses
the program and have had several brought to my attention by Windows Defender
most of which I am certain are files from my programs as they were again
brought to my attention when after deleting the previously mentioned programs
and then reinstalling them. Knowing that these files were from my program
disks I clicked on allow as before stated and recieved a succeeded
notification from Windows Defender. I followed all instuctions as directed -
restarted my computer and all, and still I am unable to open these aspects of
my programs. Also I am showing nothing in the Allowed Items list. Is this
normal after allowing the file that Windows Defender has picked out as having
Potentially Unwanted Behavior asigning Action Taken as Allow and recieving a
Status Notification of Succeeded? Finally how do I fix this problem to allow
my programs to function properly?"
