lose lan connection & my head

why when I download SP2 from the supplied cd I lose the "lan" connection for
the intenet?
I have tried to "enable" it, "repair" it and "bridge" it,using the control
panel, all fail, but when I uninstall SP2, everythings ok.
I've installed and uninstalled SP2 so many times now I'm lost.
Help needed please.

Try disabling the Firewall that gets installed when you install SP2.
 
Tried that Anne,Now I've had a new hard drive installed and my head is worse,
I'd wish I'd left well alone. TA Billy
