Lord of the Rings - Return of the King Graphics problem

R

Rich

I recently purchased LOTR Return of the King.

I have an Integrated Intel Extreme graphics card (845 GL chipset) with 64Mb
vid mem.

When trying to run I get an "unable to find Direct 3d compatible graphics
card"

I've updated both my video driver and DirectX, and still have the problem.
When reviewing the games requirements, I see that the Intel 845GL is not
on the short list of supported chipsets. However, when I run dxdiag to
test out DirectX, it works fine. Does anyone know if it's true that this
game will just flat out not work with the 845GL? Do I have any options
besides purchasing a new graphics card?

Thanks,
Rich

If the Intel Extreme graphics is not part of the supported graphic chipsets
then you are out of luck.

The 845GL should not be listed as a supported graphic chipset since it is
not a graphics chipset. 845GL is a motherbaord chipset that includes a
built-in graphics chipset (Intel Extreme).

Hello

Your answer is righ tin front of you, your onboard
video card will not work with that game, you will
have to go out and purcahse a video card, as the
last person said, your out of luck

Unfortunately, your only course of action is to buy a graphics card. Your
motherboard integrated graphics is not a true 3D accelerator, which is what
most current games need, in order to run correctly, if at all.
Sorry about that, but that's the way the biscuit crumbles.

they are all right; intel's integrated chipsets are poor
for gaming as they have almost no 3d capabilities. also,
the 64mb ram is shared with system ram.

intel named it "extreme" so people who don't know much
about computers will think it is good because intel makes
it. in reality, it is among the poorest video systems
available today!

isn't it a shame intel misleads you like this? the
celeron is another example. a 2.5Ghz celeron is slower
than a 1.8Ghz P4 and slower than the SLOWEST athlonxp in
just about everything. the intel name and the clock speed
fool the same who think intel extreme graphics are top
notch.

if i were you, i would be very upset with Intel. not that
you can do anything about it, though. separate video
cards have their own ram which is usually 3x faster. i
recommend you get a 9600pro or 9600xt...spend at least
$150 and you will be happy. DO NOT get any ATI SE card or
a nvidia geforcefx 5200...they are AWEFUL. LOTR has some
very good effects in it that need a fast card to look
right and run fast.
