Loosing emails in Outlook?

When invoking the send/receive function in Outlook, the details tab says I am
downloading 3 of 8 messages (just an example) When the download is complete,
I have received maybe 6 of the 8 it said were there. The others are
gone-nowhere to be found. This happens every time I receive email. Any
ideas what's going on? This just seemed to start about 4- weeks ago.
 
Might they be in the Junk Email folder? Might you have set the option to
permanently delete Junk, by accident?
 
Boy, now do I feel stupid. I consider myself an advanced user, but didn't
even think of that. It obviously was too easy a solution.
