looses 2nd hard drives info

this is the 2nd time we have reinstalled windows on our
primary drive leaveing the 2ndary unplugged, then plug it
back in when everything is done and it wants to format
it.Is there a way to fix this. Most the info comes up
corrupt if U try to recover it.
 
Maybe the info really IS corrupt?
Do you have another box you can plug that drive into and take a look there?
