Looking for sample app for creating a label desgner

I am trying to create a label designer where I display a list of fields from
a table and have the user
drag them to the workarea will look like a label and then have the ability
to move the fields around and resize them
etc. I just want to get an idea on how to start.

It seems the best place to start might be with the DesignSurface class which
is the Visual Studio style design surface in .NET
