Hi, I'm looking for a very simple plain text editor for use with Slrn.

It should:

- Do hard wrapping on X characters (as opposed to visual wrapping only)
- Be possible to disable wrapping

It could:

- Run in "DOS", I don't mind
- Colour quoted text, that would be perfect ;)

It should *not*:

- Have (unremovable) toolbars
- Depend on any stupid Unix-environments

That's about it, I think. Any suggestions?

The Semware Editor (QEdit) seems like the perfect choice, but
unfortunately it's very expensive shareware.

Babya Notepad might suit you. Ican send it via email if desored-from
(e-mail address removed)

PFE can do this. You can configure it to wrap certain file extensions
(say like *.txt), other not (say like *.bat). You can wrap paragraphs
wia via Edit menu, right click menu, or you can use Map Keyboard menu
and bind "EditTextReformatParagraph" function to a key combo of your
liking. See

Even if you configure PFE to wrap files with certain extensions (like
..txt) via Options -> Default Modes -> Text Formatting, you can use
Options -> Current Modes -> Text Formatting to override your default
mode when needed.

I forgot: You can also toggle wrap on/off via the status bar. Say if
wrap is set to 72, the status bar shows [Wr 72] - double click there
and you get [No Wrap] instead. In the same way you can among other
things toggle between DOS and UNIX format, macro recording on/off, and
insert mode vs overwrite mode.

Also, you can turn off toolbar - as you requested. PFE has no Unix
dependencies, it is an all Windows app. No syntax/color highlighting
though.
