Looking for a better way to manage offline files

Subject says it all -- I have LOTS of data on disks, both online and
off (CDs). I want something like the following (tell me it exists
please?)

- Works in Windows 2K/XP
- Every file saved/written is stored in the catalog so I can find
sometime later even if I put it on CD.
- I'd really like mini-HSM functionality (grandfather, father,
son....) on files

Put another way, when I use the system, and I create files, they're
written to local disk -- but the older copy is saved (HSM see above),
and after that, they move to CD (or I'm told to put them on CD). The
catalog tracks all of this so when I need to find file (X), I'm told
where it is on disk or CD.

Any ideas?

Try alt.comp.freeware. If nothing else, they might be able to point
you in the right direction.
