long to get to Loading Vista screen

I recently did a Microsoft update on my computer, and ever since them, it
takes a good 5 - 8 minutes to get to the little Vista is loading (with the
sliding green bar). The screen is just black and the HDD is going like
crazy. After that time Vista starts to load and things are normal. It's
really annoying! I have a custom build computer (Intel Core2 Duo CPU 6600 @
2.40 GHz, 4 GB RAM, NVidia GTS 8800, Seagate 320 GB barracuda). Thank you
for any hints or insights you might have.

do you have Vista 64-bit or 32-bit? my laptop does something similar to
that; at boot rarely, its hangs before the green bar, so I press a key and
and it works.
Anyway, maybe your computer is overheating at boot or you have to much
memory (applies if ya got 32-bit vista).

Hello! Thank you for the suggestions. I have Windows Vista Ultimate 32
bits. It was working fine until recently, I don't know if it's the updates
though because it's happening before the Vista logo appears. I have 4 GB of
memory but Windows Vista only sees 3.5 GB (because of the 32 bits version).
I hope I don't have to re-install Vista. It's gonna take forever! I'm gonna
try to boot with a good old md-dos boot diskette to see if it does the same
thing. Thanks!

So I tried booting it up from a floppy and it didn't show the problem. When
I tried again with Vista the problem was there again. I really don't know
what it might be. Looks like I'm gonna have to re-install Vista. I'm not
really happy about that. I wish I could just make it work somehow.
