long time to boot

Recent boot-ups this day. After XP Home (black
background) page with "waiting bar", all-black screen
lasted over 10 seconds before light blue welcome page
arrived.

Norton internet security sometimes not usable (ie I was
prompted I had no privilege to use it), but other times
usable.

Is it an XP problem or trojan problem?

Norton Virus scan, latest definitions, OK.

MANY Thanks

Is windows updated?
Have you used any spyware scanners?
There are many things that will slow down boot up.
How many programs are starting up?
Scan your system with a online scanner such as house call.
Norton may have missed something.
Try some of the tools in my sig.
