Long shutdown

What am I doing wrong? Sometimes it takes seven minutes to shut down. Is
there any way to not save my settings while shutting down?

Windows XP can experience a problem with writing out the
current user's profile data at shutdown. Microsoft offers an
add-on Service called User Hive Profile Cleanup. Many times
this will help with shutdown issues.

Note If you enable this feature, the shutdown time may be increased.

If ClearPageFileAtShutdown is set to 1, shutdown takes a *long* time.

Check this registry key...
Start | Run | Type: regedit | Click OK |
Navigate to...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\
Session Manager\Memory Management
Value Name: ClearPageFileAtShutdown
Value Type: REG_DWORD
Make sure that Value: is set 0

One or more of your programs can take a long time to close down.

To give you an example. I have Itunes running on my computer. I have
over 140000 songs in Itunes. Itunes takes 7 minutes to close down.

So if I don't want the long close down times, I'll either have to NOT
run Itunes or cut down on the amount of songs online.

Shut of the monitor and walk away and dont worry about such a simple

I too am having trouble with long shut down on XP. If the computer is on for
up to 20 mins then it shuts down OK with the buttons appearing immediately
and then some 20 secs saving settings and closing down. Over 20 Mins and it
is 2+ mins for the buttons to appear and then a further 2+ mins for saving
settings and shutting down. Can any one help?
