[long] perpetual state of login/logging off...

I just cloned my 20gb 2 partition drive to a new 160gb hd. After cloning
(used ghost 2003) the computer rebooted, and logged into windows. After
that, I powered down normally, unplugged my old 20gb, and put the 160gb as
the first and only on the cable chain. I then tried booting up. After an
unusually lengthy bios load, I get an error

Primary hard disk drive 1 not found. Strike the f1 key to continue, f2 to
run the setup utility.

If I push F1, the computer seems to bootup just fine, I'm able to select
from win98 or xp, or just default is xp. Here's the kicker. When I type my
password to login, instead of logging my in and loading my desktop the login
window instead says Please wait... Logging off...

Then after a couple minutes I hear the windows startup sound. Waiting any
longer doesn't seem to do anything, it just keeps at that logging off part.
Pressing enter or escape seems to do nothing, I can't even ctrl+alt+del for
task manager or restart. I have to hold the power till it turns off.

Then I remembered, before the new HD I installed was not detected in dos so
I had to go into the bios and change primary hard disk 1 to auto. After
doing this, I reboot again and turn off primary hard disk 1 hoping this
would fix it. I exited bios saving changes, and I reboot yet again, and when
I get the same exact login problem (but not dos disk problem or anything).

I tried rebooting and loading windows in safe mode, still I get the same
problem, except in safemode, it ACTUALLY logs me back out so I can try a
different account if I want or try to login again. I get the problem with
administrator and my normal user account.

HELP!! I don't know what to do now.

At this point, I've unplugged my 160gb hd and put back my 20gb and basically
it is just as it was before. I really want to be able to clone to my 160
though so I can use that as my primary drive.

Anyone have a clue as to what has gone wrong here?

Run the BIOs Setup Utility and do a drive autotype. (or
detect). Unless the BIOS is old, the drive should detect
properly and setup proper parameters. Then check in the
first (general) page and make sure all the proper types are
listed. If so press escape, followed by the key sequence to
reboot/save. It is required to change the drive from slave
to master position, assuming you cloned the old drive to the
new using the old drive on Primary Master, and the new drive
on Primary slave. You may also need to change a jumper in
the back of the drive from 'slave' to 'master'.

Both drives use cable select on the jumpers and I checked the auto in bios,
that is all figured out. My problem now really is just figuring out why the
new cloned drive has the login/logoff loop whenever I try boot to winxp
(win98 doesn't seem to have any problems).

Oh well, forget it. I just ended up imaging my 20gb drive to another
computer, and restoring the image to my 160gb from there also.
