long explorer hangs

Hi,

I am getting long explorer hangs eg I click on a folder and it takes a long
time for the contents to be displayed. Another example is once the folder has
loaded I have to wait again a while until I can double click on an
application. If I continue to click on the explorer window it says it is not
responding. Also when clicking on applications in the quicklaunch bar, the
button becomes depressed but then nothing happens for some time until
eventually the program opens. (If I click them mulitple times, mulitple
programs load up.)
This occurs on a laptop that I use at work and home and the computer is
"stand by" during transit. It only happens after bringing the laptop home and
only for a while. It feels like the same network hangs that you get when
clicking on a network drive that explorer can't find. We have network drives
at work but I have none at home, although I do connect via ethernet to a
hub/switch.

Thanks for the help.

Regards,
David
