long delay when displaying drive and folder lists.

We have jusy deployed about 300 new workstations across our LAN.
All are imaged from the same base OS - Windows XP SP2.
We map numerous drives to various types of servers including 2003R2, 2000,
Netware 6.5 (using latest and greatest Netware Client - 4.91SP2), and in some
rare cases NT4 and a linux box.

Users experience a delay of at least 13 seconds when they drop down the
drive list from the 'file'->'open' dialog box in applications. It gets a
little better as you use it more.

The problem had once existed with the previous workstations (Win2K) and was
resolved by applying the hotix referred to in KB article 316874.

The problem looks remarkably similar however the equivalent hotfix for WinXP
(KB 321855 - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321855 ) does not want to
install because the workstations are on later version service packs than the
hotfix installer accepts.

I suspect that the problem may have crept back into the code somewhere. Has
anyone else seen this and is there any fix for it.

Just thought I'd mention that I've tried to install the Hotfix by copying
over the <systemroot>\system32\QUERY.DLL but at the moment the Self-Healing
prevents me from doing this and keeps rolling the DLL back to the installed
(newer) version.

I'm trying to find out how to disable the self healing feature so I can do
this. Anyone know how to do this?

Ok I found that I could overwrite DLLs while in safe mode.

On top of this I have already tested (without Success) the following
possible fixes :
MS KB-833041
MS KB-818792
MS KB-321855
Update MS Office 2003 with Service Pack 2.
