Delay when opening files and using Explorer (pre-post)

Hello,

I am encountering a delay (as much as 15 seconds) when I try to open a file
(or want to browse files using Explorer) from our network. This is somewhat
a new phenomenon in that it is occuring now since we moved offices to a new
location across town. Here is a typical scenario:

I open up Excel, and click on the OPEN file icon, then a dialog box pops up
(no delay here, yet). I then navigate to the network drive letter (mapped to
a share drive) then click on the folder in THAT mapped drive (share drive),
and NOW I experience my first delay. I sometimes will have to wait 5-10
seconds. Once I am in the first level of folders on that mapped drive, it
can be a 5 sec. delay or no delay at all. Once I click on the file, though,
I THEN have to wait another 10-20 sec. for it to open. This also occurs when
using Word as well.

The same thing (as far as the delays) occurs when using Explorer to browse
files on the server, which is the SAME mapped drive mentioned above.

Here are our configurations:

2 worstations with WinXP SP2; using AVG for antivirus protection,
2 file servers; both using Win2K,
Network is via Win2K,
NetGear FVS318 router.

What I'd like to know first is do you have enough information to help solve
my "Delay" problem? I would suspect not, so if need be, you can ask me some
more questions and I will supplement this post (that is why I put "pre-post"
in the subject line).

Thanks for your help!

Phil.

Sorry, I meant to add 3 more pieces of information:

1 - This "Delay" is also occuring my boss' workstation

2 - I've noticed that when using Explorer to browse for files, it just flat
out crashes, and sometimes after re-starting Explorer it still will crash
for a few more times,

3 - This "Delay" problem is EXTREMELY intermittent. Most of the time it is
more prominent in the afternoon, but it also is occuring in the morning, but
less frequently than the afternoon.

Thanks again for your help in this matter!

Phil.
