Logon to member sites freezes Explorer

After following directions from PC World mag about
clearing unneeded programs from starting automatically at
startup, using the "services" applet in Windows 2000,
suddenly I can't log on to any membership sites--Explorer
locks up and has to be closed each time. I can get to any
website, but logging on locks it up. Since Microsoft
offers no support, perhaps someone out there knows more
about this program than the company itself is willing to
share. MICROSOFT SUPPORT SUCKS.
