After screen saver XP returns to previous user screen intstead of welcome
screen.

Have box checked in password protect on resume in control
panel/display/screen saver/advanced

Have box checked in password on resume from standy by control panel/power
options/advanced

I count on this feature to keep my kids from spending all day on the computer

Is this an SP2 problem ?

Have you assigned passwords to user accounts and changed the way users
log on? You need to make sure "users must enter a password" is
selected.

Yes, all users have passwords. This used to work fine. Something has
changed. I have removed password protection andreapplied password, still not
working properly.

Well, AFAIK this has nothing to do with SP2. All our XP boxen have SP2
on them and all the password functions are just fine.

What are your logon settings; i.e., is Fast User Switching enabled, how
many accounts are on the machine, is Guest account disabled? How long
ago did the need to enter a password after the screensaver started stop
working? Are you manually starting the screensaver? This can cause that
problem, per Knowledge Base article here:

Comp has 5 users, 1 admin and 4 limited, no guest account and password
protected. This happened after removing anti virus program that was causing
another logon problem. I didn't realize this until after my first posting.

Fast user switching doesn't corect problem on or off.

This started 1 week ago, not starting scr svr man.

This is annnoying that I can't fix this. On a side note, the problem that
the anti virus was causing is that I was unable to logoff any usert accounts,
if that helps?

And thanks for your time!!

I would contact the unnamed antivirus's tech support and see if this is
a known problem. You have a pretty good cause-and-effect there. It
would seem that the mystery program damaged something.

You might also try running the System File Checker:

Start>Run type (without quotes) "sfc /scannow". You may need your XP cd.
