logon - need both name & password

for all my online access accounts, I usually define everything, except for
my password.

It seems that Windows Mail on Vista brings up the logon prompt box
and requires BOTH the user name and password to be re-entered.... both are
"blank".

what a pain - as the user name is already defined in the account setup page

WM is asking for your username & password for your email account on the
email server...
those can't be blank.

my point is - in all my other software setups,
I've only pre-entered/defined my username... but left the password blank -
so I can enter it later in realtime.

With WM, I have done the same thing, only pre-entered my username, and left
the password blank,
but the dialog box comes up and has "user name" as the User Name, and
"password" as the Password...

Is there any way to keep the logon screen from appearing everytime you open
the mail box?

As a matter of curiosity- under email account Properties, Connections, where
you provide your name and password for your incoming and outgoing (usually by
default same as incoming) servers, is the require Secure Password
Authentication checked or unchecked?

P

it is unchecked -

this is a POP3 to Earthlink - and the POP3 user name is the same as the
SMTP,
but the SMTP does require authentication, so that checkbox is checked.

the Secure Password Authentication is NOT checkmarked

Yesterday this message appeared for the first time since I have been using
Vista and Windows Mail. Tried to do what it said but it still didn't work...
called tech. support at Sympatico...they decided to change my pop3 sever...
now things are even more of a mess cause when setting up the change i don't
have a ok/save/ set button under tools for account advanced settings. They
tried to tell me i had to uninstall everything... I swear sympatico tech.
support second level doesn't know Vista yet and they pretty much hung up on
me. Called my computer companys tech support.. they thought it might have
something to do with the latest update mircosoft sent out on monday or
tuesday this week. So i reversed back to before the newest updates were
sent... still no luck with Windows Mail now just error messages .. any
advice?????
