logon logoff LOOP windows xp home edition

G

Guest

After installing certain freeware software, I rebooted the computer.

At the login screen I select my account, windows starts up (I get to see the
background picture and hear the MS-log-in-music) and then inmediatly logs
off.

I´ve tried all users and the hidden administrador (safemode start-up). Same
problem.

I´ve done the solution described by Ramesh on how to fix the logon-logoff
issue brount on by BlazeFind but it did not work.

Is there other solution!!!!! I´m desperate.

Thanks

Hey, I have got the same problem here with XP Pro, but not caused by the
same way you did. The reply I got to my help post was from same guy who
replied to you with same answer.

It would seem this BlazeFind thing is the cure ALL for XP problems then!
I don't think.

Not necessarily BlazeFind, may be another trojan as well. But a wrong Userinit value is the ultimate cause. Majority of cases we've seen, yes, BlazeFind is the culprit.

What's your point? Please explain.

Thanks for the suggestions. At the end I couldn´t fix it and had to do a
complete recovery/instalation of XP.

My point was that that solution was given to me when I posted that I
could not login or load the winxp desktop, I basically had a similar
problem with the looping of the logging in/logging off.

I followed the said link, but I KNOW that BlazeFind is NOT on my WinXP
system, and how would the guy who supplied the link know that I would
have BlazeFind on my ystem.

I understand that wrong Userinit value may be the cause, so I posted
back asking how I could run WibXP's regedit outside of WinXP as I could
not logon to the dektop.

It would seem a bit blaazay (can't spell that word) to assume that
BlazeFind is the reason why for many cases of not being able to logon,
as the poster did.

Thanks

My solution is much more involved, but lets you access the drive to do a
file substitution, leaving the registry alone.

The registry points to 'wsaupdater.exe' so first, you install windows to a
new folder or drive (or put the drive in another system), take ownership of
the data, (this might require removing the original install from boot.ini,
if a 'dual boot' is used), and replace the adware file
'../system32/wsaupdater.exe' with good copy of userinit.exe (renamed to
wsaupdater.exe)

Now you can restore the boot.ini (or move the drive back) and boot to the
system, immediately editing the registry to point at userinit.exe, as
explained before.

Bob,

Here is one more method to inspect the Userinit value. See if that helps:

Hi Bob,

It's not to be lazy, it's expediency. I've had hundreds of confirmations
that this was the problem and the appropriate fix. When you see the same
thing 300 times, using a "canned response" is most appropriate. Also, may
have had this issue without even realizing the cause. Plus, for those it
does not help, it does not incur any further damage to their machine. For
those few remaining with a different problem, they usually post back stating
that this was not the issue. In this case, as you stated, it may still be a
damaged userinit value, in which case the first part of the link is more
appropriate in that you should be loading the registry hive from another
system to examine it - this is best left to the more advanced user, which is
why I don't post explicit instructions on doing this. I am assuming the more
advanced user will know how to do that already, so I only point out the key
to concentrate on.

Bob,

This thread explains that (same link). Connect the drive to another XP system and load the SOFTWARE hive of the 'subject' computer.
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&c2coff=1&[email protected]

Or, access the hive from a Parallel installation of XP (if available).

Ok, thanks, but whereabouts does it say/tell about inspecting the
Userinit value from OUTSIDE of WinXP?
I cannot find anything to which that would relate.

Thanks

Ok, but, I neither have another XP system nor do I have a parallel
installation.
I have a Win2k system on the same machine, but separate partition. This
is the only possibilty I have of accessing the winXP registry, if that
is possible???

Thanks
