logon failure with Windows xp client

i am setting up a new domain with win2k server and win xp clients...i have
set everything up and tested all of my logins, everything works fine for a
while when all of a sudden on one of my workstations, i am unable to login.
let me rephrase that...i can log in, but the drive that is mapped via a logon
script (same path as a redirected my documents) shows as disconnected, while
the two other drives that get mapped via the same script show as connected.
The group policies get applied perfectly, so i know that i have in some way
connected to the server, but when it goes to synchronize offline files, it
says it cannot connect to the path \\server\sharename. if i switch
computers, everything works fine. if i log on via terminal services,
everything works fine. what is going on here?

Hi,

You need to be clear on this. First you said you were "unable to log on"
and in the subject it says "logon failure", but this question appears to
be unrelated to logging on.

You may need to rephrase the whole thing to get a sensible answer.

honestly, i am not entirely clear on what is going on. the client acts as if
it is logging on fine at first. it retrieves its policies from the server
fine, and gets its logon script fine. the specific problems i am having are
that in that logon script i map three drives, and in one of my default domain
policy i redirect the my documents folder. the path for one of the drives
that gets mapped and the path to the redirected my documents are identical.
that particular drive shows as disconnected, while the other two drives are
connected fine. when the computer goes to synchronize offline files, it asks
for a user name and password, stating that the user name provided was
unsuccessful in logging on. if i use any other legitimate user name and
password, it is still unsuccessful, giving me an error saying "errors occured
while windows was synchronizing your data. offline files (\\server\sharename
on lloyd): Unable to connect to \\server\sharename. multiple connections to
a server or shared resource by the same user, using more than one user name
are not allowed. disconnec all previous connections to the server or shared
resource and try again".
if i log on to the computer as a local user, and simply browse to the share,
i can connect to it with the same user name that failed above, so i am kind
of lost as to what to do.

Hi,

It sounds to me like the subject of this thread should be "problem with
redirected folders". If that's the case, then from what I can tell, this
is "normal" - it's one of the reasons I have not redirected any of my own.

Have you checked the Event logs on these machines?

Sometimes you'll see an error related to not being able to redirect a
folder and the reason why.
