Logon error message

L

Liane

When I try to shut down or restart my computer, I get an
error that says "Windows Logon UI has encountered a
problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the
inconvenience".

I searched for this error and on a Windows XP site I
found a guy who said to go into the registry and make
sure that the program is right - I did, it is, and it
still keeps doing this. I can click close, send,
whatever, the box pops up over and over again.

Anyone else have the same problem?

Liane,

Open Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\Windows\System32 folder.
Locate the file msgina.dll and move it to d:\ or some other location.
[A new copy of this file will be extracted automatically by XP]

See if the problem persist. If yes, open Command Prompt window and type in:

"SFC /PURGECACHE"

Then, "SFC /Scanow"
