I have spent quite a bit of time trying to get the Logitech QuickCam
Sphere working on one particular type of hardware. It worked on three
others without problems, but with this one I just couldn't get it to
work at all, not with the image that worked on the others or with a full
XPPro emulation image. It seems that the key component which needed
changing in order for this camera to work was the PC type - set to ACPI
Uniprocessor PC, which is what this hardware idenfies as when TAP is
run, it does not work. Changedto ACPI Multiprocessor PC, it works
perfectly.
Can anyone explain to me why this should be so?

Hi Heidi. I've never seen or heard of that experience before. Is it possible
that the configurations we're different besides just the HAL?

Nope. Literally, same SLX file, change that one component (and change
the settings to match) and the image built will work with
multiprocessor, and not with uniprocessor.
