Login Screen Saver and ssmypics.scr

I have a project group that wants to have the systems in their meeting room
display their project logo on the login screen saver. I have set the login SS
using regedit. They are using WinXP.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314493

The problem I have is that it seems to be using the default location of the
current (or last user) as the source of the images for the ssmypis.scr on the
login screen. What happens is if the last user does not have the images in
their “my pictures†folder then the path name to that location is displayed
with an error message.

It seems that when using ssmypics.scr on the login screen it has some kind
of hard coded way it builds the location to get the images from. I set the
location by right clicking the ssmypics.scr app and configuring the location
but when it is used as a login screen saver it ignores it and uses a user
based default.

I have searched up and down the registry and have found nothing that might
affect the default. If anyone has any ideas it would help a lot.

Thanks,
dmaxwell

1) Set up the screensaver the way you want it in an account you are logged into.

2) Export the following registry key:
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Screen Saver.Slideshow"

3) Edit the resulting file, changing:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Screen Saver.Slideshow]
to:
[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Screen Saver.Slideshow]

4) Save & Import the new reg file.

As Keith said. Or, you can automate the task using Tweak UI PowerToy.

1. Configure the Screensaver / Wallpaper settings in your profile
2. Set the Screensaver timeout to preferred value in minutes
3. Test if the wallpaper / screensaver works fine in your profile
4. Install Tweak UI and run it. Click Logon, click Settings
5. Select Screensaver from the list box and choose Copy Now
6. Select Wallpaper from the list box and choose Copy Now
7. Restart Windows for the changes to take effect
