Anyone seem a problem were you login and the system
immediately logs you back off? The problem started after
I did a virus scan with Norton Anti-Virus. I was manually
deleting some Ad Ware programs. When my taskbar vanished
after, I shutdown an executable file so I could delete it
and the DLL associated with it. Did a Control-Alt-Del to
reboot and have since not been able to sign back on. ASR
disk check shows no errors. System appeasers to be
booting normally but at the login screen my account and my
family's accounts are there. When anyone signs on the
system loads, desktop screen appeats then the system logs
you back off.

I haven't seen this one before. I have XP Pro on the
system but I haven't downloaded SP2. All patches were
current as of 08/10/04.

By any chance do you run ad-aware too? If so, visit the
lavasoft site for a fix. A recent version writes a bad
registry key when removing certain adware.

Well I don't want to run Ad-ware but I seem to have to
fight a constant battle with it. Annway this problem came
up when I was removing some Ad-ware. So I will check on
the lavasoft site

Thanks

Unable to Log On To Windows XP After Removing wsaupdater.exe

.
Tried to do the lavasofthelp solution but the
file "wsaupdater.exe" does not exit. Used the "dir"
command to view all files in the directory
C:/widows/system32 and the userint.exe exists. So unless
I create it the file, I can't overwrite it. Also, I an
not sure which ad-ware program I delted caused the
problem. I was manually deleting all the at risk files
identified by Norton Anti-virus but could not delete.

Hi Ray:
Re-read the instructions at the Lavasoft site:
"copy userinit.exe wsaupdater.exe"
The above copies and renames "userinit.exe to "wsaupdater.exe".

Nothing is overwritten.

A new file named "wsaupdater.exe" (the Spyware file that was removed
earlier) is created to allow the system to bootup and logon to
succeed. Once logged in you complete the remaining steps at the
lavasoft site to finish the repair.
