A few days ago, my Win2000 Server PDC went down. I have
a Win2000 native-mode environment. What's weird is that
I have another DC on the network that was running and yet
no one could login to the network.

Is that suppose to be the case. I thought that was the
purpose of having another DC on the network; to
authenticate users. What are some things I can check
out??

First thigns first, run a dcdiag and netdiag on the other DC and post the
output here.

I assume the clients were pointing to the other DC for DNS?

I looks normal to me.

There are 5 decisive 'Roles' among DCs which you have to assign. If you
assign all 5 Roles to 1 PC, it made it effective similar to the PDC back the
time of NT domain.

Jessem,

If the DC that went down held any of the five FSMO Roles ( probably the
case ) and is not ever coming back up then you can seize the roles to the
remaining DC. Furthermore, were both DCs running DNS? - or just the one
that went down? Additionally, were both DCs also GCs? - or just the one
that went down?

I might look at these three items.

HTH,

Cary
