After the initial logon, XP returns to the welcome screen and asks for a
password after about 10 minutes of inactivity. I know there is a setting to
change or remove need to refresh the password, but I can't find it.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you're using computer in the domain then to change the password press
ctrl+alt+del.
If it's a workgroup or home computer go to Control Panel>User Accounts.
Select your user name and change the password.
