Login password resetting!

J

James Mason

Hi there,

I own a small company that works in the electronics
design area, I have just had to sack an employee for
selling company confidential information, but before he
left he has changed every password on all of the
computers in the building they all use Windows XP.

The computers are at the moment waiting to log on, but I
am unable to use them as I do not have the passwords and
the ex-employee refuses to disclose the information,
knowing full well that the business will cease trading
quite quickly as all information and software is stored
on the computers.

Is there any known backdoors so that I can reset every
thing back to normal and get the computers working ASAP.

Any help or information would be very much appreciated.

Regards

James Mason.

You don't have backups of your data?! If you did, you could reinstall
WinXP and your applications, restore the data from backup, and be all set.

You don't have password reset disks?! Shame, shame, shame.

Your employees have administrator rights on the PCs so they can change
the passwords?! Shame, shame, shame.

Sounds to me like you need some IT security...oh well, on to the problem...

You could have a reputable local computer company fix this, but since
you are too cheap to pay for reliable assistance, do a google search for
John the Ripper. Put the .iso file on a CD, it will become bootable, and
you can then use it to reset the administrator passwords. Be careful you
don't make things worse than they already are. And remember, you get
what you pay for.

By the way, you should report this to law enforcement, and your
company's lawyer - you may want to sue the former employee for damages.
That'll teach him a lesson. Hopefully, you've now learned yours.

I went to the ebcd site for downloading, but I couldn't find the
makeebcd.exe file to download so I can extract the files from the .rar
format and make the CD bootable.

Do you know where to get the makeebcd.exe file? Thanks.
