Login denied in Safe Mode

Please Help-
I'm running Windows XP on a network at work.
I wanted to defrag my computer in safe mode.
I went thru run-msconfig-boot.ini-safeboot-restart.
After restart it boots up in safe mode but my username/pswd is denied at network login - so I am stuck.
I tried reboot and F8 with "safe mode with networking" but screen dumps out list of file names and nothing else.
I'd like to fix this before going to the boss man.
Any Ideas??

Apparently your systems administrator has disabled your ability to log
into the domain in Safe Mode, which is quite sensible of him. Unless a
local account was created (unlikely and undesirable on a domain
computer), you will need to ask your systems administrator about
defragging your computer.
