Logical-drive Migration

Hi All,

I was hoping someone could help me out with my problem. I have an IBM
eserver xseries 345 server that I want to add disk space to. It has a
ServeRaid 4mx controller. It currently contains 3 hdd's in a Raid 5
array with 2 logical drives (C: and D:). I was planning on installing
3 more hdd's and adding the space to the D: drive. I've since learned
that you cannot extend a volume that was created on a Basic disk and
converted to Dynamic disk.

Now for my problem. The admin who built this server is long gone and
I want to find out if there is a way to determine if the volume was
created before or after the disk was converted to Dynamic. Is that
possible?

Each ServeRAID volume is configured via IBM software and appears to
the OS as a physical hard disk. Any partitioning, formatting, etc. is
done at the OS level and has nothing to do with the serveraid
configuration. Therefore it was created before a dynamic volume was
created but you are confusing hardware RAID & OS-based software RAID.
You would be wise to hire someone who understands the technology to
perform the upgrade.

You can chech the if the partiotion ware created before the disk was
converted by checking the "layout" in the disk administrator (computer
magement), if it was created before the layout is "Simple".

Best regards
