Hi all,

Just a quick one, XP recently did one of its automatic updates and since
then when I boot up or come out of hibernation I have to go through the log
in screen before I enter windows. I have looked at the users and there is
only one there, the administrator which is me. How do I stop the log on
screen when I switch on?

Kind regards
John

Hi

If you want to logon onto to Windows without having to enter a password, try
the following:

From Start>Run type in

control userpasswords2

then uncheck 'Users must enter a user name and password to use this
computer' and click 'Apply'. On the next screen - 'Automatically Log On' -
delete the name 'Administrator' from the User name box and enter your
account name and then the password in the next two boxes. OK your way out
and then reboot your system.

Go to Start > Run > control userpasswords2, uncheck 'Users must..."

small problem now, I have lost all administrative privileges and keeps
asking for a password???

What went wrong?

What did you do?

Go to Start > Run > control userpasswords2

(If it asks for a password it is because you gave your account a
password before, use the same)
Select your account, click on properties, go to the groups tab and
select others, in the dropdown menu, choose administrators, click
accept. This will give your account administrative privileges.

If you still want to autologon, download tweakUI, it has an autologon
heading which you can configure:

Good luck

Never gave password, just left it blank, if I go to users it says I have a
guest account?
''control userpasswords2'' comes up with administrator then asks for
password?

Hi John,

Try to boot in safe mode (F8) and access control userpasswords from
there, try to leave the password blank and press enter. It may be that
it is asking for the password used in the original installation. If
you know it, try to type it.

If you cannot, look at this site:

Good luck
